The Indian Customs EDI System project has been introduced in October 1998 at Visakhapatnam for facilitating faster clearance of Imports and Exports. The ICES is functioning under the control of Directorate of Systems, New Delhi with the software inputs from the NIC. All the required software modules are being developed by the NIC and are being ported from time to time to all the ICES locations.

            Over the last five years most of the Exports and Imports have been brought under the ICES. All the exports (except re-export under claim of drawback) and all the Imports (except bulk liquid cargo) are being processed under the EDI system.

Modules Implemented under ICES (Imports)

·        Processing of Bills of Entry for Home Consumption

·        Into Bond Bills of Entry

·        Imports under DEPB

·        Imports under 100% EOU

·        Bonds Module

·        Filing of IGM

·        Relating to Export Promotion Schemes, Ex-bond bills

·        Goods subject to levy of Anti – Dumping duty and

·        Goods levied to duty on basis of Tariff Value

·        Duty free Shipping Bills

·        Drawback Shipping Bills

·        100% EOUs

·        EPCG

·        DEEC

·        DEPB

·        Combination of export promotion schemes

·        Third party exports

                        In addition to the above, data is being transferred through e-mail and online to agencies like RBI, Joint Plant Committee (Kolkota), Cashew Export Council of India and reports are being generated and dispatched whenever any agency requires it.

Message Exchange with other Agencies:

To expedite the data transmission further and to speed up the time of processing documentation with various agencies like ports and banks, this Custom House has established connectivity with SBI and VPT through Message Exchange Servers and transmission of messages is being done.

Speeding up the clearance of Documentation:

            On an average 97% of the Shipping Bills and 70% of the Bills of Entry filed are being assessed on the same day.

Service Center

1.      A service center is provided in the Custom House for the purpose of filing Bs.E, S.Bs, IGMs and EGMs, and amendments pertaining to these documents.

2.      A terminal is provided in the service center for the trade to know the current status of the processing of documents through ICES and IE code.
