Visakhapatnam Airport is controlled by the Indian Navy, which carries out air traffic control support for both military and civil traffic. Prior to March 2012, only domestic flights were operated from Visakhapatnam. Air India commenced the first daily international Flight from Visakhapatnam to Dubai via Hyderabad from 25th March, 2012. At present, One International flight is being operated from Visakhapatnam International Airport. The timings of the flights are as follows.

In addition to one International flight, several domestic flights are being operated by various operators like Air India, Indigo, Spice Jet, Jet Airways etc.and the Airport operates 24X7.
The Customs at the Airport is headed by Assistant Commissioner and is assisted by Superintendent of Customs, Preventive Officers and Hawaldars.Clearance of International Passenger and Prevention of Smuggling activities are the main job of the staff posted at the Visakhapatnam International Airport.
Indian Customs EDI System (ICES - 1.5) was Implemented from March 2013 (pn022013.pdf) wherein Bills of Entry and Shipping Bills are processed electronically
